Yep. there are a few words that follow the gender-grammar rule. Another is brunette (vs brunet, masculine). It’s more popular in nouns, though (waiter/waitress versus server).
Don’t forget Fiancé (male) and fiancée (female)!
This is because those words were originally French, so we have taken both the masculine and feminine forms and put them into our language.
